Hall House

Hall House was built on land purchased in 1885 by Thomas and Molly Wilson. The tax assessments from 1886 state that there was a three-story house unfinished on the site. So, it is assumed that the house was completed sometime in 1886 or 1887.

The state of Delaware purchased this house in 1983 to serve as the Governor's guest house. The home was named in honor of Governor John Wood Hall, who served as Delaware's Governor from 1879-1883, by Governor and Mrs. Pete du Pont. Governor Hall's official state portrait hangs over the fireplace in the Peach Parlor, which is part of the front parlor.

Built in the Eastern stick style with gingerbread details, Hall House reflects the original historic time period in everything from the structure to the paint colors. This home includes a front parlor, back parlor, dining room and kitchen on the first floor. The second and third floors include seven bedrooms decorated appropriately for the home's original time period. This home is not open for tours, except on special occasions.

You will find the Peach Parlor towards the back of the Front Parlor. Over the fireplace, the portrait of Governor John Wood Hall hangs, for whom this home has been named.

Back through the hall across from the Peach Parlor, you will see the dining room to your right. From the beautiful drapes to the ornate furniture, the richness of the room makes it an ideal setting for fine dining.

The second and third floors include seven bedrooms. Below are pictures of some of those bedrooms to give you an idea of the beauty of each. The Annie Jump Cannon bed and bedroom are named for this nationally known astronomer from Delaware in the late 1800 and early 1900's. Her bed was donated to Hall House.
